Unfoldings (Desdoblamientos)

The idea of making a book with some of my recent self-portraits had been on my mind since I made them in 2016-2017. But it wasn't until the coronavirus pandemic started that I initiated the project. I felt that the tone of the pieces matched the gloom we all went through. It is a beautifully bound and cloth-covered piece. Since 2025 it has been part of the collection of the National Library of México.

Berenice´s Drawers

(Los cajones de Berenice)

I made this book, to commemorate the first anniversary of Berenice's death in 2022, with the photos I had taken in her house of an old wooden cabinet and its fourteen drawers filled with beautiful and strange objects: from shells and snails to fossils and stingray eggs. Diego Alcazar says in his introduction: “This singular collection portrays the vestiges of Berenice's wanderings, and the species collected. What was once movement has remained static, first in the drawers, then in Silvia's photographs”.

Paz (1898-1966). Del álbum familiar

Book about my paternal grandmother who had a peculiar life. It consists of vintage photographs that I reproduced and memories that I wrote. In the years of the Mexican Revolution my grandmother Paz and her younger brother traveled with their parents to France as children. They were fleeing because they feared for their lives and property. They lived there for about ten years and went to school. When they returned to Mexico, Paz was a young, beautiful, educated and sophisticated woman. However, her life changed radically. Thus begins this family story.

The Woodpecker. Musicians and Luthiers of Veracruz

Edited by the poet Alfonso D'Aquino, this book has a prologue by printer Juan Pascoe; forty analogical black and white photographs that I took, for more than thirty years, that illustrate the world of Son Jarocho, the traditional music of Veracruz; and couplets by musician Gilberto Gutiérrez about the woodpecker, a mythical bird in the region. The publication shows images of the landscape, musicians, dancers and fandangos, as well as the community context where it all happens.
